What is Oralcon? Oralcon is a type of combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP) which consists of Levonogestrel and Ethinylestradiol hormones as active ingredients. COCP acts by inhibiting the hormones from the brain from being produced which in turn preventing the ovaries from receiving those hormones and causing ovulation. The latter process is important in two ways. The first one is preparation for pregnancy and the second one is the menstruation process that followed when there is no pregnancy occurring.
Generally, if we control the ovulation process, we are actually controlling whether one can get pregnant or not. By preventing ovulation also means, preventing bleeding from menstruation as the uterus is not preparing its wall for implantation (blood from menstruation is the shedding of uterus wall when there is no pregnancy).
Why does a 21-year old girl want/need to take Oralcon?
There are a few reasons why a young person may want to consume Oralcon. The first reason is to prevent pregnancy. A 21-year old girl who is sexually active may not want to get pregnant at such an early age. The use of Oralcon is simple and effective which being the reason why a lot of people are using it. Since COCP medication has been in the market for a long time now, Oralcon price also has been relatively cheap in the market. The low price together with its easiness to consume, make it one of the popular contraception methods among young and sexually active girls.
Another common reason for using Oralcon is to control the amount and timing of menstruation bleeding. Some young girls do not have regular menstruation and this can lead to problems especially when one is taking exams or playing competitive sports. Regular menstruation enables one to predict when is the bleeding, hence when to wear a pad or pantyliner.
Some young girls have medical problems of too much bleeding or periods too long called menorrhagia. The use of Oralcon or other COCP can help to reduce this problem provided all pathological causes have been excluded. Due to its consistency effect in regulating the hormones and thus the timing of the bleeding, more and more young girls with menorrhagia have been prescribed with COCP.
Are there any side effects of using Oralcon?
As with many other drugs in the market, Oralcon is not an exception when it comes to side effects and warnings. There are many known and recorded side effects of COCP and this is not a comprehensive list to all of them.
Some common side effects of Oralcon are like headaches, weight gain, and menstruation irregularities. Long term users of Oralcon may complain of having occasional headaches which are usually relieved by taking a painkiller such as paracetamol. If the headache persists and worsening with additional symptoms of visual problems and vomiting, Oralcon users should consult their physician right away.
